Starting in a new role as a Senior Charge Nurse within the theatre department that I had worked in for many years, gave me the opportunity to look at how we could move forward and develop and improve as a team to deliver high quality care for our patients.
At the time, awareness sessions were being run within the organisation promoting iMatter. Key members of the theatre team were given time to attend sessions, posters and information cards were given out to staff raising awareness of iMatter within
the team and encouraging staff to a part of it and participate in the questionnaire to have 'their say'.
Results of the questionnaire were then displayed on a white board in the theatre corridor that all staff had access to and visibility of.
An interactive session was planned for all staff to participate. Post-it notes were used for staff to provide their opinions and feedback under 3 main headings. Staff were asked to think about specific main themes.
Key desired outcomes were identified from this exercise and in line with NHS Borders corporate values, a Theatre Value Statement was created that would set out the values and expectations of the Theatre team at the start of their improvement journey.
This was our first cycle of iMatter and the plan is to run it again yearly.
